Anthem Blue Cross and Scripps Reach Agreement for PPO and EPO Plans
October 3, 2026
We are pleased to share good news for our San Diego clients: Anthem Blue Cross and Scripps Health have reached a new, multi-year agreement for PPO and EPO plans, effective immediately. Announced October 1, the agreement allows members to continue receiving in-network care at Scripps hospitals, clinics and physician offices, subject to their specific plan benefits.
This is welcome news for individuals, families and employers who have been following the negotiations and were concerned about maintaining access to their Scripps providers.
Commercial HMO Plans Are Not Included
Unfortunately, Anthem Blue Cross and Scripps did not reach an agreement for commercial HMO plans. Effective October 1, 2026, Scripps physicians are no longer in-network for Anthem Blue Cross commercial HMO members. Affected members previously assigned to Scripps physicians have been reassigned to new, in-network primary care physicians outside of Scripps. The PPO and EPO agreement does not reverse this HMO change.
What Should You Do Next?
If you have an Anthem PPO or EPO plan, you can continue accessing Scripps care under your plan’s benefits. Confirm your specific provider’s participation before scheduling care.
If you have an Anthem commercial HMO plan, review your updated primary care physician assignment and contact Anthem before attending any previously scheduled Scripps appointments. If you are receiving ongoing treatment, ask Anthem whether continuity-of-care provisions may apply to your situation.
